Ceramic Stiletto Shoe

The Story Behind the Shoe

Malcolm is immensely proud to bring the Stiletto Shoe ceramic sculpture to life. There is truly nothing else like it—creating this piece requires immense skill, patience, and experience. With over 50 years in the ceramics industry, Malcolm has the expertise to craft a sculpture with perfect balance, careful proportions, and a flawless finish.

From the very beginning, the Stiletto Shoe presented a real challenge. The original sculptural model tested the limits of design, especially in balancing the heel’s weight with its structural strength. Achieving a form that was both elegant and stable required countless adjustments and refinements. Malcolm went through many trial production firings, each revealing how the clay responded to heat and how the glazes behaved during firing. After this iterative process, he achieved a sculpture that perfectly balances beauty, proportion, and durability.

Every material was carefully considered. The clay and glazes were sourced from Stoke-on-Trent and chosen specifically for this project. The iconic red sole is built up layer by layer, with three underglazes followed by three top glazes, each applied entirely by hand with a fine brush. This ensures a consistently vibrant colour across every Stiletto Shoe.

Beyond its striking visual impact, Malcolm wanted the shoe to be playful and functional. Could it actually be used? After testing, the answer was yes. The shoe is fully capable of holding tea or toasting Champagne at a wedding!
