Our Multi-Coloured Hand Painted Ceramic Mug forms part of the Artist’s Studio Mug collection and is based on the traditional half-pint mug. It’s a classic shape that feels right in the hand and looks just as good on a kitchen counter as it does in the studio. Made by designer and ceramicist Malcolm Hague, each hand painted ceramic mug is crafted from start to finish in his Staffordshire workshop, drawing on over 50 years of experience in British ceramics.

All of the materials from clays to glazes are sourced locally from Stoke-on-Trent, an area famous for its long history of pottery-making. Every stage of the process is done with care, keeping the work rooted in the traditions of English ceramics while still feeling bold and modern in the finish.

This design on the mug is hand painted, creating a lively multi-coloured surface with real movement and personality. No two mugs ever come out the same. Each one has its own mix of colour and pattern, making it a genuinely one-off piece rather than something mass-produced.

Made to be used every day, each handmade hand painted ceramic mug goes through a nine-stage production process. The handle is made separately, then sculpted onto the body using traditional techniques for extra strength and durability.
